What is Spacilus all about? It is all about simplifying web searching!

Today, there are some issues with the use of search engines:

Search engine spam
Everybody knows the problem: Among a typical list of search results you usually find a lot of entries that do not offer any real value towards your search request but consist of a bunch of links directing you to some shopping site or lure you to some website that might try to play all sorts of tricks (viruses, Trojans, dialers, etc.) on you.

Missing categorization of search results
An example: When you are looking for a particular product, search results of optimized shopping sites might very well take the upper hand in your search result list making it very cumbersome to get to the manufacturers' technical specification pages you were actually interesting in. On the other hand, when on the next day you decide to purchase that product, the shopping sites' search results that were bothering you the day before might now be offering just what you need.

Search engine users try to deal with these issues by making guesses about the value of each search result they see on a search result page. Naturally, as they become more experienced over time, their guesses become more and more educated. But no matter how good the guessing becomes, it never stops to consume time and nerves!

This is where Spacilus comes into the picture. Spacilus can do the guessing for you, saving your time and nerves!

How does it work?
Spacilus uses Bayesian statistics to categorize search results. Put simply, Bayesian classification looks at the joint probabilities of a search results words and phrases to belong to a certain category. For example, a search result that contains a phrase like "price comparison" will most likely belong to a category "Commercial" or "Spam" rather than to a category "Informative".

An important advantage of this categorization method is its ability to learn!
As a matter of fact, after first installation Spacilus does not know how to categorize search results at all. Instead, it will adapt to your very personal preferences. Next to each search result a set of buttons invites you to categorize it yourself and to train Spacilus at the same time. This way, click by click, Spacilus' guesses about search result categories will improve.

Soon you will notice that you can start to trust in its categorization and begin to save time and nerves ;-)
